Biography

Hong Kong–born double bassist Dominic Law is a member of the Macao Orchestra. His orchestral career has brought him to ensembles across the United States and United Kingdom, including appearances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra as Guest Principal Bass, as well as the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Law received his Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from The Juilliard School, studying with Harold Robinson, Rex Surany, Timothy Cobb, and Joseph Conyers. His doctoral research examined Serge Koussevitzky and his influence on American music, bringing together his interests as a performer and scholar.

Alongside his orchestral work, Law is a founding member of Musicus Soloists Hong Kong and has performed in Hong Kong, Germany, and Hungary. His work as a soloist and chamber musician reflects a particular interest in expanding the expressive and cultural possibilities of the double bass.

After more than a decade of study and professional life in New York, Law returned to the region in 2026. He is Co-Founder and Executive Manager of Bauhinia Camerata, through which he seeks to reconnect Hong Kong musicians working internationally with the city's musical community and its next generation of artists.
